For the period of September 16.19, it is the children and teenagers who will be the stars of the culture capital, along with their particular projects. The hub of the SEE YOU Festival, where the events will be held, is the area between the Dortmunder U and the Freizeitzentrum West (FZW).

The brand-new Dortmunder U is the international centre for art and creativity in the heart of Dortmund, and it will serve both as an exhibition area and a space for experimentation for the entire duration of the festival. Hundreds of young artists will be displaying their work there.

The Freizeitzentrum West (FZW), which is located close by, was set up in 1968, and is now known throughout the country as a creative and successful venue for innovative youth and pop cultural activities. With more than 250 events per year, the hall and club areas of the FZW cover a considerable cultural spectrum. Over the course of the SEE YOU Festival in September 2010, it will be the turn of the young people to put together the programme. For dance and drama, acrobatics, music and literary readings, the FZW provides a professionally run platform for all types of performers.

While the teenagers are running the show at the FZW, the youngest applicants will find what they are looking for in the mirror tent of the Fletch Bizzel Theatre Group. The organisers have set aside a special prize for cultural projects involving children, and the mirror tent is the ideal location for the special children’s stage, within the festival area.

It is the job of the youth festival team to ensure that the festival really is the huge event for children and young people that it promises to be.
Just to make sure, Lena Mattheis and Lara Neumann, both volunteers in their cultural social year, searched for and found many motivated people throughout the Ruhr region. These young helpers are involved in all important areas of the festival’s organisation, such as the stage programme including on-stage introductions, catering, technical facilities, and public relations. The youth team will even have its own stage in the festival cafe. It is bound to be something to look forward to.
